Mr. Joe Benjamin Butler, 74, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Monday, July 29, 2024, at his residence.
Born February 16, 1950, in Walterboro, he was a son of the late William Gerald Butler and Helen Hiers Butler. He began working with his father in 1968 when he graduated from high school and then opened Butler LP Gas in Walterboro in 1984. He was the owner and operator until 2023. He was a lifelong member of Evergreen Christian Church. He was an avid NASCAR fan, loved classic cars, and especially loved going to car shows with his cousin, Andy McClure. If you knew Joe Ben, you knew that he loved westerns and John Wayne, cutting grass and bushhogging. More than anything, Joe Ben loved his family, adored his grandchildren, and cherished the time he got to spend with everyone.
Surviving are: his son, Allen Butler and his wife Suzanne of Walterboro; grandchildren, Little Allen Butler, Anna Butler, and Morgan Bennett, all of Walterboro; brother, Jerry Butler and his wife Linda of Walterboro; sister, Debbie Breland and her husband Charles of Walterboro; aunt, Eloise McClure of Walterboro; nieces and nephews, Angella Warren and her husband Marc, Pamella Brownlee and her husband Jimmy, William Breland and his wife Jamie, Spencer Breland, and Jennifer Breland-Sumner and her husband Rickey; great nieces and nephews, Mollie, Gus, Brittany, Preston, Connor, J.B., and Logan; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Benjamin “Jody” Butler.
Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Friday, August 2, 2024, at Evergreen Christian Church, 1701 Bells Highway, Walterboro. The Reverend Gordon Ackerman and The Reverend Michael Polk officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
