Joe Avant, Jr

Mr. Joe Earl Avant, Jr.,, 75, of Reevesville Road, Bowman, entered into eternal rest Saturday, December 15, 2012 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Monday, December 17, 2012 at Branchville Christian Church. Interment will follow in Rigby Cemetery in Bowman. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 6 until 8 pm at Branchville Christian Church, 6907 Freedom Road, Branchville.

Mr. Avant was born August 14, 1937 in Walterboro and was a son of the late Joe Earl Avant, Sr. and Merrel Kinard Avant. He served his country in the South Carolina National Guard and retired as a Supervisor with SCE&G. He also was a farmer for 5 years. He was a member of Branchville Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He had played the trumpet in the Walterboro High School Band.

Surviving are: his wife of 45 years, Nancy “Nan” Inabinett Avant of Bowman; daughters, Melanie McAlhaney and her husband Jackie of Aiken and Rhonda Thompson and her husband Randy of Bowman; grandsons, Jason McAlhaney and his wife Laura of Aiken, Joel McAlhaney of Clemson and Heston Thompson of Bowman.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Branchville Christian Church, Post Office Box 36, Branchville, SC 29432; or to the charity of one’s choice.
