Joan Roberts Driggers

July 15, 1947 — December 1, 2016

Mrs. Joan Roberts Driggers, 69, of Round O, entered into rest early Thursday morning, December 1, 2016, while surrounded by her loving family at Roper Hospital in Charleston following a courageous battle with Leukemia.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, December 3, 2016, from Bedon Baptist Church, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro.  The Reverend John Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.

Born July 15, 1947, in Columbia, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Bruce Roberts and the late Bessie Mae Pearson Roberts.  Joan retired after many years of service from the United States Department of Agriculture.  A member of Bedon Baptist Church in Walterboro, she was active in many aspects of the church’s work to include service as President of the Woman’s Missionary Union for many years.  Joan was a strong-willed and very outgoing person.  She loved her family and her animals dearly, always centering her life around their needs and desires, being a truly giving person.

Surviving are: her husband of forty-five years, Mr. James Mendel “Jimmy” Driggers; three daughters, Tammy Driggers Varn and her husband Matt, Kimberly Driggers McClellan and her husband Blair, Lynn Driggers Beach and her husband Eddie; a brother, Jim Roberts; and a sister, Patsy Jameson.  She was the best grandmother to her ten grandchildren, Jay, Joshua, Kyle, Heather, Haley, Eric, Brittany, Brendon, McKenna, and Kaylin.  She also leaves behind two dear sisters-in-law,  Miriam Humphries and her husband Thomas and Marie Driggers Ackerman and her husband Paul.  Among the host of Angels watching over Joan and awaiting her arrival in heaven were Philip and Jason Driggers.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
