Joan Bernardes

Mrs. Joan Florence Bernardes, of Cottageville, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Colleton Medical Center.



The Funeral Mass will be held 10 am, Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at St. Anthonys Catholic Church, 925 Jefferies Blvd, Walterboro. The Final Commendation and Farewell will be held privately.



Mrs. Bernardes was born in Rockville, Connecticut and was a daughter of the late Olney Whipple Howland and Mildred Burns Howland. She was a retired floral designer and was a member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.



Surviving are: her husband, Anthony Tony Bernardes; children, Julie Boucher (Marc) of NH, Janet Ellis of TN, Joyce Orlowski (Rob) of CT and James Daigle of CT; step-daughter, Deborah Barra (Avelino) of Cottageville; brother, John Howland (Annie) of CT; grandchildren, Jenny Lee Titus, Michael Duquette, Bennett Ellis, Alexander Ellis, Kasie Daigle, Tyler Daigle, Robert Orlowski, Christopher Deldon and Sara Daigle; and step grandchildren, Jason Fernandes, Justin Barra, Bianca Barra, Scott Bernardes, Jr., Shawn Bernardes and Steven Bernardes. She was preceded in death by a step son, Scott Bernardes, Sr.



In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to: St. Anthonys Catholic Church.
