Jimmie Carroll

Mr. William James Carroll, affectionately known to everyone as “Jimmie”, 88, of Walterboro entered into eternal rest Sunday afternoon, December 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, at Colleton Medical Center.

Born December 2, 1935, in Walterboro, he was a son of the late James Duncan and Maggie Ruth Padgett Carroll.  Jimmie served his country in the South Carolina Army National Guard for 9 years. He retired from the South Carolina Department of Transportation Engineering Department, at the age of 50, after 32 years of service. His work life continued with Avant Construction, retiring there after 16 years.  After that, he worked alongside his son at Carroll Enterprises until his recent illness.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Irene Jones Carroll of Walterboro; children, Sue Yin Carroll Hinson and her husband Paul of Walterboro, Cheryl Carroll Nielsen and her husband Cliff of Georgia, and Thomas Floyd “Tommy” Carroll and his wife Sandy of Walterboro; five grandchildren, Meagan Chaplin Utsey and her husband Ceth, Erin Nielsen Newton and her husband Jerry, Austin Nielsen, Cody Carroll and Brittany, and Taylor Carroll; and one brother, George Carroll and his wife Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas M. Carroll, and his sister Myra Carroll Gantt.

The Relatives and Friends of the Carroll family are invited to attend the funeral services for Mr. William James Carroll, which will be conducted at 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, December 5, 2024, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Gordon Ackerman officiating.  Entombment will follow at Glendale Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
