Biography

Mrs. Jessie Davis Franklin, 83, of Pon Pon Plantation Avenue, Jacksonboro, entered into rest Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at her residence while under the care of Amedysis Hospice. She was the wife of the late Command Sergeant Major John Franklin, United Sates Army (Ret.)

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Monday morning, February 17, 2014, from Jacksonboro Baptist Church, 14749 Charleston Highway, Jacksonboro. The Reverend Bob Craig officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.

Born May 21, 1930, in Mashawville, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Julius Davis and the late Alice Davis Davis. She began her working career at the Mark Clark Hall on the grounds of The Citadel in Charleston and then retired in 1985 from J.P. Stevens in Walterboro. She was a lifelong member of Jacksonboro Baptist Church where, throughout her lifetime was active in many aspects of the church's work. At her church, she was a member of the Mabryce Tuten Women on Missions Group and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and was also active with the Hostess Committee. Jessie will be forever remembered for her strong constitution and zeal for life, as well as the countless hours she spent tending to her yards.

Surviving are: two daughters, Jennifer Davis and Barbara Pearce and her husband Bob all of Jacksonboro; and four grandchildren, Rodney Stanley and his wife Stephanie, Mike Wilson and his wife Natalie, Julie Dantzler and her husband Kenny all of Walterboro and Amy Shaffer and her husband Robbie of Jacksonboro. There are thirteen great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews that also survive.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that so desire, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: St. Jude Cancer Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
