Ms. Jennie Avant Walling, age 90, of Walterboro, previously married to the late Denmon L. Walling, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Colleton Medical Center after an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be conducted 3 o'clock Friday, August 2, 2013 at Bedon Baptist Church, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro, with Pastors James Lee Craft, George Buck Reeves, and Eric Bjork officiating. Burial will follow at Cross Swamp Methodist Church Cemetery, Lively Stone Road, Ashton.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 1 oclock until the hour of service at the church.
Born in Colleton County, April 11, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John W. Avant and the late Minerva Crosby Avant. For many years she and her husband farmed, operated small businesses and at one time operated a House Moving Company; she was also a seamstress at various factories in Colleton County before becoming disabled. She was a member of Bedon Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class.
Surviving are grandsons; John Marshall Marty Benton, Jr. (Sandee) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Denmon Albert Bert Benton of Cottageville; a brother, Carlisle Avant (Evelyn) of Grover; a sister, Janet Blewer of Cordova; great grandchildren, John Marshall Benton, III and Tara Nicole Benton of Indianapolis, Indiana; two special family friends, Terri Craft and James Lee Craft; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by eight infant children; a daughter, Patricia Walling Benton Borders; two brothers, Clark Avant and Berry Avant; and two sisters, Mary A. Connelly and Julia A. O'Quinn.
The family would like to express appreciation for the care given to her over the years by Oakwood Nursing Home and in particular to CNA's Carolyn Grant and Prescilla Pencile; as well as the nurses and doctors at Colleton Medical Center Emergency Room Department, Intensive Care Unit and Second Floor nurses.
