Mrs. Jennie Lillian Padgett, known by many as “Lill” or “Granny”, age 89, of Lodge, entered into rest Friday afternoon, January 13, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Rincon, Georgia. She was the loving wife of the late Mr. James Nathaniel “Nat” Padgett.
Born May 21, 1927, in Lodge, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Crosby and the late Alease Black Crosby. She was a dedicated homemaker who devoted her life to her family whom she dearly loved. A lifelong member of Carter’s Ford Baptist Church, she for many years was the Children’s Primary Sunday School Teacher, was active with the Woman’s Missionary Union, and was faithful in her attendance to the weekly prayer meetings held in Mrs. Louise Cummings home, led by Reverend Barry Moore. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing and gardening were her greatest pastimes.
Surviving are: her four children, James M. Padgett of Lodge, Jennie “Midge” Laird and her husband Jerry of Summerville, Betty Hagan and her husband Harvey of Rincon, Georgia, and Susan Dew of Summerville; and two sisters, Vivian Jolly of New Ellington and Lucille Edwards of Jackson. “Granny” as she was affectionately known, is survived by twelve grandchildren, Wyatt Padgett (Kim), Jaime Infinger (Tony), Tonya Law (Doug), Mandy Silva (Aaron), Nathan Laird, Steve Hagan, Chris Hagan (Tab), Andrea LaGrow (Brad) Kevin Deas (Heather), Tierney Hagan (Jordan), Renee Dew, and Jessie Dew as well as twenty-five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tanya Padgett Lyons and a great grandchild, Haven.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, January 16, 2017, from Carter’s Ford Baptist Church, 6507 Lodge Highway Lodge. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
