Mr. Jefferson Walter Howell, Jr., a friend known simply as Jeff, age 52, of Crosby Corner Road, Walterboro, entered into rest surrounded by his loving family Friday afternoon, August 16, 2013, at his residence while under the care of Amedysis Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted 4:30 Monday afternoon, August 19, 2013, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Jack Padgett and The Reverend Ricky Crosby officiating. Interment will follow in Great Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Walterboro.
Born February 2, 1961, a native of Colleton County, he was a son of Mr. Jefferson Walter Howell, Sr. and the late Mrs. Mary Caroline Robertson Howell. Having spent most of his childhood through high school days in the Philippines, where he played football and baseball, he was a graduate of Walterboro High School. Jeff was employed as a mechanic with Colleton Fleet Management and through that work he quickly became an essential part of a larger family known as Colleton County Fire and Rescue. There he went far above and beyond what was asked of his duties, assisting in many structure fires and other areas of the departments work where he was needed, always of his own will, never having to be asked. He was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church where as was Jeffs true nature, he was willing to assist in any way possible. He loved automobiles and was described as a Car Enthusiast who had a vast collection of Hotwheels Collector Cars and was always up to working or tinkering with cars and motorcycles. A man of many talents, Jeff was a talented artist, certified scuba diver, and was an excellent drummer having previously been a part of the bands Bits and Pieces and Blue Steele. Jeff left many memories for us to forever cherish in our hearts; maybe it was his fun loving and caring character, one of the many talents he possessed, his love for animals, or possibly you will think of him when you see a fire truck with its beautiful and shiny diamond plated fabrication work.
Surviving are: his wife of thirty-two years, Mrs. Sandra Crosby Howell; his father of Round O; a son, Jeremiah Walker Howell of the home; one he loved as a daughter, Amanda Lynn Bishop of Horse Shoe, North Carolina; a brother, Gary Riddick Howell and his wife Tiwana of Round O; and two sisters, Darlene Howell of Round O and Sharon Howell of Modoc.
