Staff Sergeant Jay C. Kendall, United States Marine Corp (Ret.), age 73, a resident of the Veterans Victory House and formerly of 2752 Scuffletown Road, Ruffin, died Sunday morning, November 16, 2008. He was the husband of Mrs. Betty L. Martin Kendall.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 oclock Tuesday afternoon, November 18, 2008, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment with full military honors will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, 99 Pine Grove Road, Walterboro.
Staff Sergeant Kendall was born September 5, 1935, in Franklin Kentucky and was a son of the late Robert Kendall and the late Myrtle Smalling Kendall. He served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corp, having seen action during the Vietnam Conflict and had achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant at his retirement. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Surviving are: two daughters, Debra Asbury and her husband Lawrence of Slab Fork, West Virginia and Sheridan Carter and her husband Jerry of Hendersonville, North Carolina; two sons, Troy Smoak and companion Ann Aldous of MacClenny, Florida and Eddie Smoak and his wife Kathy of Wildwood, Florida; three brothers, Willard Kednall of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Jimmy Kendall of Sinton, Texas, and Bill Kendall of Indianapolis, Indiana; and two sisters, Shirley Johnson of Oakland, Kentucky and Mary Mosley of Russellville, Kentucky. There are six grandchildren and five great grandchildren that also survive.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, memorials may be made in his memory to: Shiloh Baptist Church.
