Jason Scott Mccoy

February 27, 1963 — April 1, 2025

Hampton, South Carolina

Jason Scott McCoy, 62, a devoted son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on February 27, 1963, in Huntington, West Virginia, Jason lived a life filled with love, laughter, travel, and adventure.

Jason met his beautiful bride Claire on Kiawah Island, South Carolina in 1989. Their love story led to marriage in 1990, right there on the Island. As a dedicated and loving father, Jason took immense joy in raising his two children, Austin and Ashlyn, instilling all the values in them which he held most dear. Such as his passion for hard work, dedication to family and friends, and most importantly his faith in God. As a family, they shared countless memories while hunting, boating, golfing, and skiing together.

Jason started his career working for Pete Dye helping build legendary golf courses. While creating the Medalist Golf Course in Hobe Sound, FL, Jason was introduced to Greg Norman. For the past 33 years, Jason worked alongside Greg at Greg Norman Golf Course Design, contributing to the creation of over 120 golf courses worldwide. His vision and craftsmanship will continue to shape the game for generations to come.

Knowing Jason meant having a lifelong friend. He embraced everyone in his life like family. He was genuine, caring, and always made others feel welcome. Each year, Jason hosted a pig roast at their home in Hampton, South Carolina inviting friends and family to hunt, eat, and enjoy each other's company. Spending time with Jason was filled with delicious food prepared on many different grills and smokers, plenty of alcohol, and laughter that often lasted into the early hours of the morning.

Jason is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara McCoy. He is survived by his loving wife, Claire Elaine McCoy; his father, James Wetzel McCoy; his beloved children, Austin (Myah) McCoy and Ashlyn (Ryan) McCoy Johnson; his sister, Jamie O’Connor; and nieces Kristin, Jaclyn, and Jordan O’Connor.

There will be two celebrations of life to honor Jason. The first will be held at the McCoy’s home in Hampton, South Carolina, on May 3rd from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. The second will take place in Hobe Sound, FL, at Harry & The Natives on May 17th from 2:00PM to 4:00PM. All are welcome to attend either or both.

In lieu of flowers and planting trees, the family requests donations be made to Brunson Church. Funds will be held with the Church until The Jason S. McCoy Foundation, a 501(c)(3), is established to honor Jason’s legacy and passion for helping those in need.  Contributions may be mailed to: Brunson Church, Post Office Box 473, Brunson, South Carolina 29911.
