Jane Rowe Immel

April 30, 1942 — February 3, 2021

Walterboro, South Carolina

Mrs. Jane Rowe Immel, age 78, entered into rest Wednesday morning, February 3, 2021, at her home in Walterboro, surrounded by her adoring family and under the care of Amedisys Hospice.

Born April 30, 1942, in Richmond, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Clagett and Beatrice Haynes Rowe.  In 1965, alongside her husband, they opened and operated a tug boat company on Gwynns Island, Virginia known as Immel’s Marine.  They operated that company successfully and in 1982 moved, along with their company, to the US Virgin Islands where they continued their operations.  She with great expertise operated the vessel “Amazing Grace”.  In 2006, they made the Lowcountry of South Carolina their home.   She was a licensed Ship and Tug Boat Captain, certified Scuba Diver, certified Steam Engineer, and a licensed private pilot.   Jane knew a strong work ethic and put her heart into all that she did.  She dearly loved and cared for others.  She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church in Walterboro, where over the years, she has been devoted and active to many areas of the church’s work.  At her church, she was active with the Vacation Bible School, was a member of the church choir, and served with the Outreach Ministry.

Jane loved antique tractors and was a member of the Salkehatchie Tractor Club.    It was through this love that she discovered how she could serve our Lord in an even greater way.  While at tractor shows, she and her husband always used the venue to promote their ministry, “Tractors and Tracks Tracts” which allowed them to minister to countless folks in their different walks of life.   Of all the many antique tractors they owned, Jane was especially fond of their 1939 Oliver because of its electric start but when others were there to start the tractor for her, then she preferred their 1937 Crawler.  She enjoyed showing tractors in many of the community’s local parades.

Jane and Jerald were travelers of the world.  They jumped at the notion to go somewhere.   They traveled numerous times to the Holy Land in Israel and have taken countless cruises.    She was a member of the People Enjoying People Club.  Jane lived a full and wonderful life and she knew foremost that God always provided, and she witnessed to the fact that he did.

Surviving are: her husband of fifty-nine years, Mr. Jerald Gene Immel; a son, Jefferey Wayne Immel of Walterboro, a daughter, Jeanette Carol Immel and her husband Christopher W. Bain of Charleston; a grandchild, Lejend Immel Bain; a sister, Brenda Rowe Haynes; and one that she loved as her own daughter, Valerie Lynn Strader and her husband Michael and their sons, Payne and Dayton.  She is also survived by a cousin who she knew as a sister, Jean Hogge Meador.
