Mr. James Harold Simmons, Sr., 85, of Walterboro, entered into rest Friday morning, March 28, 2025, at his residence.
Born March 12, 1940 in Hampton, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Charlie and Marie Simmons. He attended with his wife at Grace Advent Christian Church in Walterboro and was forever dedicated to his family. Harold possessed a strong work ethic and never truly retired. He was the founding owner of Lowcountry Transportation and will always be remembered for this love he had for his Ford tractor as well as cutting down trees.
Surviving are: three children, Jamie Simmons of Walterboro, Robin Simmons Fail (Kevin) of Walterboro, and Dee Ann Davenport (Wendell) of Walterboro; a brother, Lewis Simmons of Yemassee; a sister, Hazel Simmons Harter of Allendale; five grandchildren, Christopher Simmons (Jennifer), Brandon Simmons, Leslie Davenport (John), Joseph Davenport (Chloe Crosby), and Rebecca Fail; and one great grandchild, Hudson Wyler Simmons. He was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Evelyn Grace Simmons; and four siblings, William Simmons, Cecil Simmons, Marie Gordy, and Nancy Ermalee Simmons.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Edisto Hospice as well as devoted caregivers, Neeley, Aubrey, and Michelle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, April 4, 2025, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Wayne Lucas officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
