Mr. James Charles Rhode, Sr., 85, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday evening, February 10, 2022 at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Born June 11, 1936 in Colleton County, he was the son of the late Clyde Warren Rhode and Lenore Kinsey Rhode. He served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corps and had been a weapons instructor at Camp Lejeune. He retired as a Foreman from Asten Hill in Walterboro after 40 years of service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Walterboro, where he was a member of the Gene Alexander Sunday School Class, served on the Deacon Board and as a church usher.
Mr. James was a true southerner. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a soy bean farmer and loved to work in his garden. Mr. James possessed a strong work ethic that was witnessed by anyone who knew him. He was also an avid Clemson Tiger football fan.
Surviving are: his wife of 66 years, Patricia Harmon Rhode of Walterboro; children, Rhonda Rhode Stubbs and her husband David of Easley, James Charles “Jimmy” Rhode, Jr. of Walterboro, and Steve Clyde Rhode of LaGrange, Georgia; grandchildren, Patricia Bethany Stubbs Comstock (Adam), David Derrick Stubbs, Jr. (Erika), Gabriel Mitchell Rhode (Alexis), and Adrianna Marie Rhode. He was preceded in death by his three siblings, Blanche Rhode Breland, Frances Rhode Coker, and Kinsey Rhode.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Monday morning, February 14, 2022, from the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, 124 South Memorial Avenue in Walterboro. The Reverend Dr. Jeffery Hessinger officiating. Interment will follow in the Kinsey Cemetery, Round O Road, Round O. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 10 o’clock that morning in the church sanctuary.
The family has requested that members of the Gene Alexander Sunday School Class serve as honorary pallbearers and their presence is requested at 10:30 that morning in the church Narthex.
