Master Sergeant Platt was born November 12, 1928, in Saint George, and was a son of the late Curtis Legare Platt and the late Pearl Smoak Platt. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army for twenty-four years, having retired with the Rank of Master Sergeant. During is career with the military, he saw action in Vietnam and was highly decorated with several distinguished medals to include the Purple Heart. A truly patriotic man, he continued service to his country in a civil capacity as the Veteran Affairs Administration Officer for Colleton County, a capacity he held for many years having helped an unknown number of veterans and their families. Helping his fellow countrymen was his life, and the untold works he did for fellow veterans will always be what made Hollon Platt such a special and regarded man.
Hollon was a graduate of Walterboro High School, where he played football for the historic Wildcats and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in downtown Walterboro. Friends and family knew that his passions in life were his family, his country, and the outdoors. Hunting and fishing the creeks of Colleton County, along with sports of all kinds were his greatest pastimes.

Platt of Summerville; a brother, Curtis Legare Platt, Jr. of Edgewater, Florida; and a sister, Margaret P. Maxcey of Walterboro.
