Mr. James Edward Phifer, 74, of 290 Country Lane, Walterboro, died Sunday morning, June 13, 2010, at his residence under the care of Odyssey Health Care Hospice.
A celebration of his life will be conducted 4 oclock Tuesday afternoon, June 15, 2010, from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, 842 Bedon Road, (at the intersection of Bedon Road and Barracada Road) Walterboro.
The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony at the Kingdom Hall.
Mr. Phifer was born June 15, 1935, in Camden, New Jersey and was a son of the late William Russell Phifer and the late Elizabeth Booze Phifer. He served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force for nearly eleven years having seen action during the Korean Conflict and was the retired owner of Phifer General Repairs in Walterboro. He was a longtime and very active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses in Walterboro, where he served as a Elder for thirty-six years having served in that capacity in over five different congregations throughout South Carolina. He along with several other members of the Walterboro community joined together every morning at Hardees for what they called, their morning breakfast club.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty-two years, Mrs. Janice Rebecca Phifer; three sons, James Russell Phifer of Greenville, John Mark Phifer of Walterboro, and Brian Heath Phifer of Charleston; a daughter, Donna Phifer Ware of Walterboro; and a sister, Marian Garrity of Coconut Creek, Florida. There are four grandchildren, Tyler Ware, Kyle Joslin, Brandon Phifer, and Kaylee Phifer that also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to either the charity of ones choice or to your local congregation of Jehovahs Witnesses.
