Mr. James Warren Nettles, 92, of Walterboro, entered into his state of eternal rest Monday afternoon, August 9, 2010, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was the husband of sixty seven years to Mrs. Ruby May Price Nettles.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 oclock Wednesday afternoon, August 11, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Mr. Nettles was born December 8, 1917, in Ridgeland and was a son of the late Jim and Opelia Smart Nettles. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army-Air core before moving to the South Carolina National Guard until his retirement from the service. He also worked for the Jasper County Board of Education where he worked until retiring in the position of maintenance supervisor. He was a longtime member of Ridgeland Advent Christian Church and was a member of the American Legion where he was formerly active in the actives of the post. He will be fondly remembered for his love of working in his garden that he took great pride in as well as his love of harvesting local fresh ostyers.
Surviving are: four sons: Henry Nettles, Franky Nettles, Michael Nettles, and Sammy Nettles all of Ridgeland. There are twenty-three grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Susie Breland and Jean Anderson; as well as a son, Jimmy Nettles.
