James Murdaugh

Mr. James H. "Jimmy" Murdaugh, 61, of Varnville, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Beverly Mason Murdaugh.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Murdaugh was born September 28, 1949 in Ridgeland and was a son of the late Herman Lindsey and Etta Mixson Murdaugh. He worked as a Carpenter Shop Supervisor of the Maintenance Department at the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island until he retired in 2001.

Mr. Murdaugh was a member of Varnville Christian Church. He was also affiliated with the Jahab Shriner's and the Evergreen Masonic Lodge #153. He will be remembered for his willingness to help other people. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Surviving are: his daughter, Cathy M. Bairfoot of Varnville; son, James Linsey Murdaugh and his wife Lisa of Varnville; brother, Ronald Murdaugh and his wife Mary of Varnville; mother-in-law, Clara Mae Mason of Varnville; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Murdaugh Rivers.

Memorials may be made to Sanctuary Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.

The family will gather at the residence of Mrs. Clara Mae Mason, 434 Main Street, Varnville.
