Mr. James Luther Hunt, 81, of Walterboro, South Carolina and Lumberton, North Carolina, entered into rest Thursday, January 1, 2015 at his home in Lumberton, North Carolina. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Vivian Powell Hunt.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon, January 8, 2015, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Daniel Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Born January 21, 1933, in Dillon, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Luther Steadman Hunt and the late Minnie Lowery Hunt. James worked a dedicated and faithful career with Asplundh Tree Service where he retired after forty years as a supervisor. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Fairmont, North Carolina. He will be fondly remembered for his love of hunting and fishing.
Surviving are: four children, Ricky Hunt and his wife Wanda of Walterboro, Brian Hunt of Walterboro, Daryl Hunt and his wife Dianne of Walterboro, and Cynthia Hunt and her husband Bill of Summerville; a brother, Yancy Hunt of Laurinburg, North Carolina; four sisters, Mary Frances Oxendine, Queen Esther Hunt, and Sallie Mae Clark all of Fairmont, North Carolina, and Katie Oxendine of Lumberton, North Carolina. Here are eleven grandchildren, Ricky Hunt, Jr., B.J. Hunt, Rachel Shaffer, Brian K. Hunt, Jr., Joshua L. Hunt, Nathanael A. Hunt, Jessica N. Hunt, Tasha Priester, Daryl Hunt, Angela Anderson and Kaitlyn Cumbee; three step-grandsons; and fourteen great grandchildren that also survive. He was preceded in death by two great grandchildren and four siblings, Willie Howard Hunt, Isabel Hunt, Billy Ray Hunt, and Flora Oxendine.
