Mr. James Monroe Colson, 88 , of Phillips Road, Walterboro, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at his residence in the comfort of his family. He was the husband of the late
Mary Jane Craven Colson, his beloved wife of fifty years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock, Saturday, August 13, 2011 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment will follow in the Bedon Baptist Church Cemetery, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro.
Mr. Colson was born January 18, 1923 in Walterboro, South Carolina and was the son of the late Baynard Colson and the late Etta Bailey Colson. He was a World War II Veteran. He served his country faithfully in the Navy aboard the USS McComb. He spent many years as a farmer. He had a love of woodworking, refinishing furniture for many family and friends. For several years, he was employed by Asten Hill Dryer Fabrics, and he was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are: a son, Michael M. Colson and his wife Cyndi Smith Colson of Walterboro; a daughter, Barbara Jane Harrison of Walterboro; a brother, David Colson and his wife Barbara of Saint George. There are four grandchildren, Angela Cummings, James Colson, Bryan Harrison all of Walterboro and Amy Cook of Round O. There are four great grandchildren that also survive as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters; and his son-in-law Heyward Breland "Butch" Harrison III.
