Mr. James Lee Carter, affectionately known by all as Jimmy, age 83, of 304 Black Street, Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Friday afternoon, October 23, 2009, at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Frances Marion Carter.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 oclock Sunday afternoon, October 25, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend James Day and The Reverend Dr. Walter T. Doyle officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites as provided by the Unity Masonic Lodge will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Jefferies Blvd, Walterboro.
Mr. Carter was born January 26, 1926, in Walterboro and was a son of the late Willie Henry Carter and the late Zula Frank Carter. Jimmy loved his country and his Lord. He faithfully answered his call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army where he received the rank of Master Sergeant and then continued his service with the National Guard where he served until his retirement having reached the rank of First Sergeant. For many years, he owned and operated Carters T.V. Repair in Walterboro. He was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Walterboro where he was active in many aspects of the churchs work. At his church, he was a member of the Adult Choir, was a member and served as Chairman of the Church Board for forty years, Sunday School Teacher and Church Elder. He was a member of the Unity No. 55 Masonic Lodge, Ancient Free Masons and the Coastal Shrine Club where he served in the capacity of Treasurer for twenty-five years. His tenure in service and love for his country led him to become a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are: a brother, Wendell Oliver Carter of Walterboro; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Lib Rentz of Pinopolis and Helen B. Rentz of Walterboro; as well as six nieces and 8 nephews.
