Mr. James Allen Carroll, Jr., age 74, of 252 Davidson Tower Road, Yemassee, entered into his state of eternal rest Thursday evening, May 6, 2010, at the Hampton Regional Medical Center in Varnville following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Frances Elmore Carroll who died in 2007.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 oclock Tuesday afternoon, May 11, 2010, from Ridgeville Baptist Church, 354 Ridgecut Road, Early Branch. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
Mr. Carroll was born June 28, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was a son of the late James Allen Carroll, Sr. and the late Anna Marie Barrett Carroll. He served his country faithfully in the United States Airforce from 1953 until 1960. He then worked for the South Carolina Highway Department where he operated the local drawbridges and was a road supervisor. Lastly, he worked along with his wife who was employed by the South Carolina Commission for the Blind working for the South Carolina Welcome Center in Hardeeville. He was a member of Ridgeville Baptist Church in Early Branch where he was a member of the Deacon Board before moving to an honorary status due to his failing health. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and will be fondly remembered for his love of fishing.
Surviving are: three sons, James Allen Carroll, III and his wife Paulina of Montegut, Louisiana, Arnold Francis Carroll and Brandon Thompson both of Yemassee; two daughters, Lina Lee Carroll Baughman and her husband Kenneth and Joyce Ann Searcy both of Yemassee; a step-daughter, Carole Marie Boyd and her husband Randy of Greenville; and four sisters, Anna Wiles and Joan Menning both of Ladys Island, Margaret Boisclair of Beaufort, and Eileen Petroff of Burton. There are eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren that also survive. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
