Mr. James Herbert Gilbert Black, 42, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday evening, March 17, 2022.
Born September 16, 1979, in Bennettsville, South Carolina, he was a son of Mr. Talbert Burley Black, Jr. and Mrs. Mary Jane Opdyke Black. James spent most of his working career in construction and possessed many talents and abilities. He had boundless respect for the great outdoors; having enjoyed fishing and hunting. An avid sportsman, he was well known for his proficiency at throwing a fast ball in his younger years. He was a member of the Walterboro Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Surviving in addition to his parents of Walterboro are: four brothers, Brian Black (Michelle) of Arkansas, Elvis Black (Shanna) of Moncks Corner, Burley Black, III (Rochelle) of Walterboro, and Glen Black of Columbia; six sisters, Darla Griffiths (Kent) of California, Lorinda Wright (Gary) of Georgia, Tamara Black of Summerville, Elayna Black of Summerville, Anitra Cottrell of Utah, and Cheryl Fail of Lancaster; and an uncle, Frankie Black (Dixie) of Lexington.
Funeral services will be conducted at 5 o’clock Monday afternoon, March 28, 2022, from the Walterboro Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 306 Dandridge Road, Walterboro. President Frank Gilland Presiding. Interment will follow Tuesday morning, March 29, 2022, at 11 o’clock in Demark Cemetery, Denmark.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony Monday afternoon beginning at 3:30 pm at the Walterboro Branch.
