Mr. James (Jimmy) F. Barnes, age 70, entered into eternal rest Friday afternoon, May 29, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro following an extended illness.



Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 oclock Monday morning, June 1, 2009, from the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with the Reverend Chris King officiating. Interment will follow in the church yard.



Mr. Barnes was born October 11, 1938 in Colleton County, South Carolina and was a son of the late

W. Raymond Barnes and the late Sarah Earnestine Priester Barnes. He served his country faithfully in the Army National Guard. In 1967 he moved to Rincon, Georgia, where he opened the towns first grocery store, which was known as Rincon Red and White. He worked there until his retirement in 1986. He was a lifelong member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and was a Master Mason. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, fishing the local creeks, camping with family and friends, as well as his love of building things.



Surviving are: his wife of twenty-three years, Mrs. Alice Strickland Barnes; one son, James Michael Barnes of Springfield, Georgia; three daughters, Angie Barnes Walker of Rincon, Georgia, Dianna L. Smith and her husband Marvin of Grays, and Sandra Fennell and her husband John of Hampton; one brother, Ray Barnes and his wife Alice of Ehrhardt; and one sister, Lorraine B. Edwards and her husband Ralph of Branchville. There are nine grandchildren Brandon Barnes and his wife Andrea of Rincon, Georgia, Shannon Barnes of Georgia, Rachel Walker of Rincon, Georgia, Derek Walker of Rincon, Georgia, Dana Boyles of Hardeeville, Blake Smith of Grays, Ashley Smith of Grays, Clyde Fennell and his wife Andrea of Hampton and Brian Fennell of Hampton; three great-grandchildren Mark and Gabrielle Boyles of Hardeeville and Gabriel Fennell of Hampton; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
