Ms. Jackolyn Jean (O’Quinn) Hetrick, age 67, of Hanahan entered into rest Friday afternoon, August 28, 2026 at Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Jackie was born in Savannah, Georgia, on April 14, 1959. Her parents, Ronald David and Barbara Jean O’Quinn Hetrick, loved her deeply. Jackie was the baby in the family, and everyone knew it. She graduated from Trident Technical College with an Associate of Arts degree. Her dream was to become a nurse. However, instead of pursuing a professional career in nursing, she made sure to care for everyone and every animal she met. For years, she cared for her brother-in-law and his wife, and until her last days, she cared for a friend’s mom. She loved people and enjoyed spending time with the ones she loved.
Jackie passionately loved her best friends from R.B. Stall High School. She spent more than 54 years with her four best friends. Brenda, Debbie, Jackie, Teresa, and Kaye shared years of love, birthdays, sleepovers, travel, and stories. Friendships that last this long reflect her commitment and loyalty. Ajay K. Pandey once wrote, “Everyone has a friend during each stage of life, but only lucky ones have the same friend in all stages of life.”
Then came her newer friendships, which made her last days more than memorable! A trip to the beach, a walk in the sand, a hug on the Angel Oak meant for a few moments; she had no worries. Jackie and Julia spent those days sharing delicious meals, memorable moments, and lots of laughter because we all must reconcile that “The trouble is, you think you have time.” Jackie’s friendships meant the world to her.
Jackie is survived by Pup Pup, a 14-year-old chihuahua, who took up every moment and thought. This adorable tiny creature was the love of her life! No one who knew Jackie didn't know about Pup Pup! They went everywhere together. Pup Pup had a carrier, and they were travel buddies. Jackie’s love for animals was unmatched. She would have rescued every single animal if it were financially possible.
Jackie is also survived by her sister, Cynthia Douthit (Terry); her two nephews, David Bennett (Patty) and Steven Douthit (Jasmine), and her two nieces, Miranda McCune (Dennis) and Jillian Lewis (Greg). Many nieces, nephews, and cousins remain, including one very special cousin, Marianne O’Quinn Hair (Peter), who brought our family’s history to life with many stories and stayed by Jackie’s side to the end. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Brenda Ellen Hetrick Oxford.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 o’clock Tuesday morning, September 1, 2026 from the graveside at Williams Cemetery.
