MARSH, Iva
WALTERBORO " Mrs. Iva Hucks Marsh, 97, of Walterboro, died Thursday afternoon, September 4, 2008, at The Oaks in Orangeburg. She was the widow of Mr. Kenneth Burton Marsh.
A memorial service will be conducted 2 oclock Saturday afternoon, September 13, 2008, from the Amos Chapel in the Sheffield Medical Building of the The Methodist Oaks, 1000 Methodist Oaks Lane, Orangeburg.
The family will receive friends following the service in the lobby of the Sheffield Medical Building.
Mrs. Marsh was born may 5, 1911, in Florence, South Carolina and was a daughter of the late Phillip Jerome Hucks and the late Edith Williamson Hucks. A former resident of Fort Pierce, Florida, she was an active member of First Methodist Church, where she became a loyal member and helper in youth activities. Her beautiful lyric soprano voice enabled her to be a valued assistant in music groups, both in church work and in Fort Pierce High School where she was regarded as a talented soloist.
She, along with her husband who was an insurance executive, and her daughter Joy, later moved to Jacksonville, where she continued her studies in art and music. For many years, she studied voice and was a soloist at several of the citys churches. She continued her art studies, creating beautiful floral paintings in the one-woman art shows, which was enjoyed by so many people.
Always, shy and self-effacing, she helped brightened the lives of many. She will be sorely missed by those she knew and were fortunate to have had her for a friend.
Surviving are: her daughter, Joy Marsh Lawson and her husband Dr. Ben Lawson of Walterboro; and a grandson, C. O. Ladd Ackerman of Charlotte, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be made to the following: The Methodist Oaks, for use with the Residents Assistance Fund, Post Office Drawer 327, Orangeburg, SC 29116; or to, Bethel United Methodist Church, where she had attended with her daughter, Post Office Box 407 , Walterboro, SC 29488.
