WALTERBORO " Longtime Radio Personality and friend to all, Doc Holiday of Walterboro, died Wednesday morning, April 8, 2009, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Born as Irvin Smith in Charleston County, South Carolina on July 6, 1931, he was a son of the late Norman Smith and the late Eva Driggers Smith. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army, Marine Corps and Air Force. Known as Doc Holiday his life was radio. He was a retired manager with WALD/ Super Gospel Country Radio Station in Walterboro as well as various radio stations in Charleston, and was a former television show host in Las Vegas, Nevada. In his last few years, along with his beloved wife, they owned and operated Payless Tires on Jefferies Blvd. in Walterboro.
He was a member of First Assembly of God and will always be fondly recalled for the good nature he had for others, never meeting a stranger and always in the most sincere of manners wanting to help others. Family and his ethic of hard work were very important to him, and the love he possessed for his family will always be remembered.
Surviving are: his wife of twenty-three years, Mrs. Sherrie Smith; a son, Irvin P. Smith and his wife Lisa of Beaufort; and four daughters, Lori Smith and Karen Stevens and her husband Jeff all of Las Vegas, Nevada, Eva Smith of Walterboro and Gena Smith of Summerville. There are nine grandchildren, Kerry, Amanda, Jennifer, Sara, Shari, Ashley, Miranda, Kori, and Ryan; as well as five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Thursday morning, April 16, 2009, at The First Assembly of God, 2107 Hampton Street, Walterboro. Interment with full military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has suggested that memorials be directed in his memory to an organ donors association of ones choice.
