Biography

Mrs. Irene Johnson Hiers, 85, of Bells Highway, Walterboro, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday morning, May 9, 2012, at her son's residence while under the care of Odyssey Hospice. She was the wife of the late Mr. Sibyl Hiers.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 12, 2012, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Tom Polk officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Christian Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Hiers was born October 23, 1926, in Marion, and was a daughter of the late Merritt Johnson and the late Fannie Ammons Hair. She was a member of Evergreen Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Walterboro. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother who centered her life around those she loved and was always a gracious and talented southern cook.

Surviving are: two sons, Joe Earl Hiers and his wife Ann of Walterboro and Robert Wayne Hiers of Walterboro; and a brother, Ronnie Johnson and his wife Charlotte of Beaufort. There are six grandchildren, Missy Hiers, Jody Hiers and his wife Johnnie, Shannon Hiers, Jason Hiers, Sibyl Ann Hiers, and Courtney Barnwell and her husband Gregg as well as fifteen great grandchildren that also survive. She was preceded in death by a son, Sybil Stanley Hiers.
