Biography

Mr. Hugh Carroll Beard, 66, of Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Barnwell County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at Colston Branch Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 pm until the hour of service at the church.

Born August 26, 1947 in Bamberg County, he was a son of the late Corey Rizer Beard, Sr. and the late Mary Etta Moore Beard. He was a retired veteran who served his country faithfully in the United States Navy. He loved his family and was a devoted friend to many. Hugh was an avid reader and adored animals. He was fascinated with the beauty of all the things that God blessed him with in his life. He was a member of Colston Branch Baptist Church.

Surviving are: his wife, Cyndi Lyons Beard of the home; two daughters, Corey Laken Beard of Orangeburg and McKinley Brynn Beard of the home; one son, Nathan Stuart Beard of the home; two brothers, Danny (Emily) Beard of Denmark and Corey "Skipper" (Wendy) Beard of Bluffton; four sisters, Kathleen (David) Smith of Varnville, LeeAnna Tindal of Sumter, Paula (Ray) Johnston of Pinewood and Lynn Nix of Olar; one brother-in-law, Reverend Billy Hughes of Bishopville; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Beard of Barnwell and Ann Beard of Ehrhardt.

He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Larry Beard and Fred Beard; two sisters, Julia "Judy" Hughes and Mary Evelyn "Evie" Collins; three brothers-in-law, Joe Tindal, William "Montique" Nix, and Michael Collins; and one sister-in-law Elsie Beard.
