Hoyt C. Owens, Sr.

Mr. Hoyt Carlton Owens, Sr., age 82, entered into rest Tuesday morning, September 15, 2015, at his home in Brunson.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Friday afternoon, September 18, 2015 from the graveside at Owens Cemetery, 5370 Prince Williams Road, Brunson.  Pastor Jonathan Mixson officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday morning prior to the funeral services beginning at 10 o’clock at the residence.

Born November 21, 1932, in Mullins, South Carolina, he was a son of the late John Boyd Owens and the late Betty Price Owens.   Hoyt was the owner and operator of Owens Diesel Service in Hampton since 1972.  He was of the Independent Baptist faith.  He possessed a great passion for his horses and the outdoors; and will always be remembered for that love as well as his dedication to his work.

Surviving are: his wife of sixty years, Mrs. Helen Thigpen Owens; five sons, Johnny Bruce Owens, Sr. and his wife Sharon of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, Hoyt Carlton Owens, Jr. and his wife Melany of Brunson, Larry Daren Owens and his wife Pat of Harleyville, Randy Eugene Owens and his wife Roxanne of Brunson, and Christopher Matthew Owens of Summerville; a brother, William L. Owens of Columbia; and five sisters, Maxine Collins of Manning, Frances Harrelson of Columbia,  Jeanette Rabon of Hartsville, Shirley Simmons of Fayetteville, and JoAnne Taylor of Texas.  There are seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren that also survive.
