Biography

Mr. Hosea Alvin Gerald, 81, of Dorchester, entered into his eternal rest Saturday evening, March 31, 2012, at the Veteran's Victory House in Walterboro, SC. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Estelle Carpenter Gerald.

Funeral services with military honors provided by the United States Army will be conducted 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, April 4, 2012, at Florence National Cemetery, 803 East National Cemetery Road, Florence,SC

Mr. Gerald was born March 7, 1931, in Lake View, SC, and was a son of the late Ira D. Gerald and Belle Huggins Gerald. He served his country faithfully, beginning with the South Carolina National Guard before enlisting in the United States Army where he saw service in active combat during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Dillon High School and was a retired Operations Manager from Santee Cement Carriers of Harleyville, SC. After retirement he continued to work for Cheetah Transport in Charleston where he worked until he was seventy-four. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Surviving are: a son, Alvin Edward Gerald and his wife Patty of Mount Pleasant, SC; two daughters, Sandra Gerald Wiggins and her husband Ben of Valdosta, GA and Gail Gerald Godwin and her husband Michael of Florence, SC; and six grandchildren, Necole Kaney and her husband Kenneth, Sarah Phinney, Jamie Godwin, Anna Godwin Turnage, Matthew Gerald, and Kristin Gerald. There are six great grandchildren that also survive. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Major Gerald, Paul Gerald, and Herbert Gerald; and four sisters, Jean Gerald, Louise Woods, Ellafaye Floyd, and Emily Gerald.
