Mr. Holland Benjamin Crosby, 88, of 11308 Bells Highway, Ruffin, entered into his eternal rest Saturday evening, September 8, 2012, at his residence under the care of Southern Care Hospice. He was for sixty-three years the husband of the late Mrs. Julia Rae McAlhany Crosby.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, September 11, 2012, from Bethel United Methodist Church, 16147 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin with The Reverend Wayne Major and The Reverend David Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in the churchyard.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service that morning in the church sanctuary beginning at 9:30.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Crosby, 11282 Bells Highway, Ruffin.

A native and lifelong resident of Ruffin, South Carolina, he was born November 28, 1923 and was a son of the late Willie H. Crosby and the late Blanche Griffin Crosby. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II. While serving in the military he was wounded during combat and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired fire fighter from the Parris Island Marine Corp Base; and for many years, with his late wife at his side, has been an icon at the Ruffin Farm Supply, a company his family has successfully operated for many years.

He was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church – Ruffin Charge where in his earlier years was active in assisting with the maintenance of the church’s grounds. He also loved to garden, each year planting and faithfully tending to his garden, always proud of the crop it yielded and lovingly sharing his harvest with a community whom loved him dearly.

Surviving are: three sons, Warren Lanier Crosby, Sr. and his wife Allison, William Larry Crosby and his wife Lynn, and John Michael Crosby and his wife Myra all of Ruffin; and a sister, Reba Crosby Nelson of the Snider’s Community in Ruffin. There are seven grandchildren, Warren Lanier Crosby, Jr., Judy Joette Crosby Cone, Niki Lynn Crosby Jones, Jalyn Shae Crosby, Ashlyn Elizabeth Crosby Smith, Jeremy Wayne Crosby, and Gabrielle Nicole Crosby; as well as six great grandchildren who also survive. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Wayne Benjamin Crosby; three brothers, Marshall Crosby, James Crosby, and Woodrow Crosby; and a sister, Mary Crosby Polk.
