Dr Herrin

Doctor R.J. Herrin, 82, of 205 Center Street, Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Veterans Victory Home in Walterboro. He was the husband of the late Hazelene Moss Herrin.



Funeral services will be held 2 oclock, Friday, October 17, 2008 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.



Doctor Herrin was born December 26, 1925 in Albemarle, North Carolina and was the son of the late Chester D. Herrin and Ada Almond Herrin. He served his country in the United States Navy as a Tail Gunner. A graduate of Lincoln Chiropractic College, he and his late wife established Dr. R.J. Herrin Chiropractic Center in Walterboro, which they operated from 1954 until 1989. He was an active member of Edgewood Baptist Church, where he was a member of the church choir for many years, as well as many other aspects of the churchs work. He was a member of such civic organizations as the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks-Walterboro Lodge #1988, where he was a past Exalted Ruler; the Lions Club, where he was a past president; and also served on the Directory Board of the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member of the Chiropractic Association. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed watching the Clemson Tigers, stock car racing and baseball.



Surviving are: his sons, Michael Ray Herrin of Charleston and Robert Mark Herrin and his wife Julia of Atlanta, Georgia; his best friend and companion, Jessie Breland of Ruffin; former daughter-in-law, Marie Herrin of Charleston; grandchildren, Christopher, Toni, Austin and Ashley; and great granddaughter, Kayleigh.
