Hermine Staudel Carter

June 20, 1938 — October 31, 2014

Mrs. Hermine Staudel Carter, age 76, entered into rest Friday morning, October 31, 2014, at her home in Walterboro. She was the loving wife of fifty years to the late Mr. Robert Cecil Carter at the time of his death in 2010.

A celebration of her life will be conducted 11 o’clock Friday morning, November 7, 2014, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Rich Johnson officiating.

The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony in the parlor of the mortuary.

Born June 20, 1938, she was the last surviving of four children to the late Martin and Anna Mier Staudel. She was a native of Bischofsgrun, Germany, receiving her citizenship in the United States of America on February 17, 1962. Since the time of making America her home, she always remained a good German girl at heart. She was no stranger to hard work; however, the wants and needs of her household were the ultimate dedication of her life. For many years and for the greatest part of her working career, she worked in food service and hospitality serving many roles within that industry but most notably that of a hostess. She also worked as a secretary for Dopson Heating and Air. The last nineteen years of her life she served as a loving and dedicated homemaker, devoting every second of her life to her late husband. She was a member of Good Shepard Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walterboro. She possessed a special talent for crocheting as well as arts and crafts, having for many years operated her own wreath designing business. Also, for many in her beloved community, her yard was a constant source of enjoyment and inspiration by her always immaculate decorations and gardens.

Surviving are: two sons, Robert W. “Bobby” Carter and his wife Mary Ann of Columbia and Michael A. Carter and his wife Marcy of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Robert E. Carter, Sarah Alston, Michaela Carter, and Mileigha Carter; as well as her constant companion and beloved pet, her Old English Sheep Dog “Pumpkin” which is a fourth generation family member of the Carter family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to the following: Good Shepard Lutheran Church, 106 May Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or to, Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
