Herman H. Crosby, Jr.

Walterboro, South Carolina

Mr. Herman H. Crosby, Jr., 80, of Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday morning, February 11, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and close family.

Born May 20, 1942, in the Mashawville Community of Walterboro, he was a son of the late Herman H. Crosby, Sr. and the late Edna “Lib” Warren Crosby.   He worked a long and honorable career with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, where he retired after thirty-three years of service as a First Sergeant.     He was a lifelong member of Sandy Dam United Methodist Church, where he was active in the men’s club.   He was an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan.

Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Sherri Strickland Crosby; three children, Keith Crosby and his wife Laurie of Walterboro, Cyndi Carpenter and her husband Kevin of Lexington, and Amanda Nettles and her husband Ryan of Walterboro; seven grandchildren, Garrett Nichols, Emilia Crosby, Bayleigh Crosby, Kaci Crosby, Kyle Carpenter, Justin Carpenter, and Roxy Nettles; a great grandchild, Olivia Rose Nichols; a sister, Nancy Lee and her husband Don of Mashawville; and a brother, Miles Crosby and his wife Bonnie of Mashawville.  He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Sara Strickland; a sister-in-law, Terri Strickland Johns and her husband Marcus; and a brother-in-law, David Strickland and his wife Sherry; as well as a host of nieces and nephews to include: Cara Johns Hiott, Johnnie Hiott, Tyler Johns, Garon Strickland, Roslyn Hiott, and Pam Wright.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Wright and her husband Raymond; and by a brother, Craig Crosby.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Devita, especially nurse, Drena Hazel, her compassion and kindness was always above and beyond her call.

A private family ceremony will be held in The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.

No flowers by request and in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to the following:  American Cancer Society, Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, American Heart Association, or The Diabetes Foundation.
