HUFFMAN, Herbert

WALTERBORO, SC " Mr. Herbert Huffman, 89, of the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, South Carolina, a resident of Rock Hill, South Carolina and a former resident of Inverness, Florida, died Sunday afternoon, September 7, 2008. He was married to the late Mrs. Frankie Chambers Huffman.



Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 Friday morning, September 12, 2008, from the graveside at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 South West 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida.



Mr. Huffman was born September 15, 1918, in Holly Grove, West Virginia and was a son of the late Ira Melvin Huffman and the late Nancy Ellen Seacrist Huffman. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army Air Force as a Sergeant. He served his country during World War II as an Airplane Gunner, having been stationed at Walterboro Army Air Base over sixty years ago, which is the current day site of the facility where he passed away. He also served under the Command of Jimmie DooLittle. Mr. Huffman received numerous awards which included the Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Three Bronze Battle stars and the Air Medal with Seven Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a retired salesman and will be remembered for his love of fishing. Before his declining health brought him to South Carolina to reside with his niece, he lived in Inverness, Florida where he lived life to its fullest capacity with is wife.



Surviving are: three brothers, Herman Melvin Huffman of Boise, Idaho, Kenner Buddy Huffman of East Bank, West Virginia, and Homer Ray Huffman of Weston, West Virginia; and three sisters, Martha Louise Hancock Hudnall of Hansford, West Virginia, Ethel Maxine Howe of Montgomery, West Virginia and Juanita Faye Johnson of Montgomery, West Virginia. He is also survived by care givers, his niece, Nancy Chappell, as well as Georgiana Anderson Ritz, Dwight and Grace Irwin, and Vickie Chappell Cud.



In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made in his memory to: Veterans Victory House, 2461 Sidneys Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
