Henry Ray Smith

November 18, 1948 — December 25, 2016

Mr. Henry Ray Smith, 68, of Walterboro, crossed over Jordon into his precious Lord and Savior’s Arms Christmas Day, December 25, 2016, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, December 30, 2016, from The Walterboro Church of God, 4582 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro. The Reverend John Harbin and The Reverend Larry Medlin officiating.  Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.

Born November 18, 1948, in Marshville, North Carolina, he was a son of the late James Alfred Smith and the late Eula Pope Smith.  He loved God with all of his heart.  He was an active member of the Walterboro Church of God, where he was active in many aspects of the church’s work.  At his church, he was a Sunday School teacher, Singer, and played the Tambourine.  He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone he met.  Everyone that knew Ray, loved him.  He was an owner and operator truck driver for Wall Street Systems and will always be remembered for the dedication and strong work ethic he possessed.  He served our country faithfully in the United States Army, having served two years during the Vietnam Era where he received the Purple Heart and Air Medal.

Surviving are:  his loving wife, Mrs. Patricia Ann DeWitt Smith; his children, Timothy L. Hiott, Sr. (Karen) of Walterboro, Michael Ray Smith (Tammy) of Wingate, North Carolina, and Cindy Smith Hawrtis (David) and Melanie Smith Halcom (Scott) both of Monroe, North Carolina; two brothers, Billy Frank Smith of Monroe, North Carolina and James Warren Smith of Spokane, Washington; a sister, Nancy Smith Summerford of Monroe; and eight grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a brother, J. Conway Smith; and sisters, Margaret Smith Strawn, Maxine Smith Melton, and Willene Smith Griffin.
