Mr. Henry Belk Cook, Jr., 78, of 703 Ireland Hills Drive in Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Friday afternoon, September 11, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.



Funeral services will be conducted 5 oclock Monday afternoon, September 14, 2009, from the graveside at Live Oak Cemetery, Jefferies Blvd, Walterboro, with The Reverend Dr. John Hucks officiating.



Mr. Cook was born August 13, 1931, in Kershaw, South Carolina and was a son of the late Henry Belk Cook, Sr. and the late Ruth Davidson Cook. He served his country faithfully in the United States National Guard for many years. Mr. Cook was a well known businessman and entrepreneur in the Walterboro Community and his devout hard work and dedication proved successful for him and his family. For many years, he owned and operated the historic Cook Theater along with the Ritz Theater both in Walterboro as well as Cook Interstate Services, which was a gasoline station that was located off Interstate ninety-five near Walterboro. His love of the outdoors and hunting and fishing of all types lead him into his last business venture which was Cooks Marine located on the Charleston Highway on the outskirts of Walterboro.



He was a member of the Ehrhardt Southern Methodist Church and in former years while a member of Mount Carmel Southern Methodist Church, he served as a church steward and other various capacities in the church. He was a member of such organizations as the Walterboro Civitans and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge No. 1988 in Walterboro. Henry Cook will be fondly recalled for his love of family and friends, joy he shared in cooking for friends, and spending time with those he cared about.



Surviving are: his wife of fifty-five years, Mrs. Jane Beebe Cook; three sons, Henry Belk Cook, III and his wife Amy, Robert D. Cook, and William H. Cook and his wife Cathy all of Walterboro; a daughter, Beebe Cook Kennedy and her husband Sean of Roswell, Georgia; and a longtime friend of the family, Darlene Ogden of Walterboro. There are four grandchildren and four great grandchildren that also survive.
