Entered into eternal rest on May 15, 2010, Helen Virginia Pentecost Broach, widow of James Carlos Broach. Formerly of Paducah, Kentucky, she lived at Heritage Healthcare of Walterboro, South Carolina.
Mrs. Broach was born on July 2, 1918 in Mayfield, Kentucky and was the daughter of the late Jack and Bertie Mae Carmen Pentecost. She graduated as valedictorian of Mayfield High School, class of 1936. She was an avid reader and, as a teenager, had the distinction of having read every book in the Graves County Library.
Mrs. Broach was a devout Baptist, a teacher and model of Christian values for her own children and many others at the First Baptist Churches Mayfield and Paducah, Kentucky. Her devotion spanned all ages of childrens ministry, including the Cradle Roll, Girls Auxiliary, Sunday School, and Training Union.
Mrs. Broach worked more than 20 years at the J.C. Penney Company of Paducah, first in the Girls Department and then in the office. She loved planning the associates social events, a task she was persuaded to continue even following her retirement.
In retirement, new interests included oil painting, ceramics and square dancing, and she and Mr. Broach enjoyed their travels. In 2001, they moved to Walterboro, South Carolina to be near family. There, they were welcomed into the fellowship of Bedon Baptist Church.
Mrs. Broach is survived by five children: Carolyn (Billy) Lewis and Marilyn (Randy) Peters of Walterboro; LuEllen (Phil) Ransbottom of Ormond Beach, Florida; Jennye (Bill) Thornton of Valrico, Florida; Jim (Barbara) Broach of Bloomington, Illinois; and sisters Almirene Travis and Martha Babb of Mayfield, Kentucky and Bettye Petersen of Huntley, Illinois; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charlie C and Margie Broach of Reidland, Kentucky; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carlos, in 2002 after 64 years of marriage, and by a sister, Margaret Ray, of Sedalia, Kentucky.
