Harvey C. Cooler

February 22, 1952 — October 7, 2016

Mr. Harvey Carroll Cooler, 64, of Early Branch, passed away Friday, October 7, 2016 at his residence after a battle with cancer.

The funeral service will be held 2 pm, Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Carroll was born February 22, 1952 in Ridgeland with his twin brother, and was a son of Doris O’Quinn Freeman and the late Harvey Lee Cooler.  He quit school in the 8th grade to help his mother with bills alongside his brother and sister.  He had worked in a cotton mill while in Alabama, as well as Georgia Pacific of Varnville for over 16 years before it closed.  He even stopped a fire from spreading to other buildings while there.  He worked on Hilton Head for 19 years landscaping with Sea Pines, Rose Hill, Palmetto Dunes and other plantations.  He was working for Community Services Associates (C.S.A.) at Sea Pines when he became medically retired; all while being a volunteer firefighter for over 25 years.  He later became a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Early Branch where he helped his brother cut grass. He has a large group of family and friends that will deeply miss him.

With his passing on to Heaven, he leaves behind: his loving  and loyal wife, Winona “Winnie” Cooler of Early Branch; children, Christopher Lee Cooler of Varnville, Marilyn Michelle Cooler Chavis and her husband Quentin of Ehrhardt, and Carolyn Marie Cooler Stanley and her husband Christopher of Varnville; his devoted mother, Doris O’Quinn  Freeman of Hampton; two brothers, his twin, George H. Cooler, Sr. and his wife Ruby of Early Branch and Cecil Leroy Humbert and his wife Holly of Ridgeland; his only sister, Catherine Ruth Slowik and her husband Edward of Ridgeland; 9 grandchildren, Megan Cooler Long and her husband Lee, Michael Conner, Jr., Lindsey Cooler, Samantha Chavis, Brandon Conner, Brian Chavis, Braden Cooler, Gabriel Stanley, and Jacob Carroll Chavis; he was blessed with one great granddaughter, Lacey Lee; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Charles and Ruth O’Quinn; his father, Harvey Lee Cooler; three precious nephews, George Harold Cooler, Jr., Gary W. Slowik, and Dennis Kennedy; as well as a host of aunts and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral fund or to his family.
