Mr. Lionel Stanley Whittington, 95, of Varnville, entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning, June 4, 2024, at Advent Health Hospital in Davenport, Florida. He was the husband of the late JoAnn Phelps Whittington to whom he was married over 40 years.
Born September 2, 1928, in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was a son of the late Henry Whittington and Lucille Hyott Whittington. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a Petty Officer First Class. He was a retired insurance agent for McClure Insurance Company. He was a member of Varnville First Baptist and was a volunteer fireman for the Varnville Fire Department.
Surviving are: his son, Guy Whittington of Winter Haven, Florida; sister-in-law, Catherine Hudson Whittington of Varnville; 3 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his children, Michael Whittington, Gary Whittington, and Ellen Whittington Burn; granddaughter, Michelle Colleen Whittington; and brothers, Mickey Whittington and Bobby Whittington.

Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Saturday morning, June 8, 2024, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Pocotaligo Road, Varnville.
