Mr. Harry Wendell Bennett, 86, of Standale Street in Hampton, entered into rest Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2015, at the Hampton Regional Medical Center in Varnville. He was twice married, first to the late Mrs. Myrtle Bell Bennett and was the husband of Mrs. Joyce Ginn Bennett.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, January 6, 2015, from the Nixville Baptist Church, 3915 Two Sister’s Ferry Road, Estill. The Reverend Paul Cresson officiating. Interment wll follow in Rice Patch Christian Churchyard, 15246 Sniders Highway, Islandton.

Born February 11, 1928 in Lodge, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Eddie and Edith Copeland Bennett. He served our country in the United States Navy and after a long and dedicated career with the Savannah River Site in Aiken, where he served in many capacities to include Fire and Public Safety, he retired in 1989 as Fire Chief. He was a member of Nixville Baptist Church. He will always be remembered as a good man who was a blessing to those he knew. He was an outdoorsman who will fondly be recalled for his avid love of fishing and camping.

Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Joyce Ginn Bennett; a son, Harry F. Bennett and his wife Rachel of Yemassee; a daughter, Teresa G. Bennett of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Phoebe Bennett Hiott of Walterboro; two grandchildren, Brandi Thompson and Tommie Jean Thompson; and a great grandchild, Taylor Jan Thompson. He is also survived by Joyce’s children, Annette Evans and her husband Jay, Linda Smoak, and Derryl Ginn and his wife Joye all of Nixville; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
