Harry Mears

Ehrhardt, South Carolina

Mr. Harry Marshall Mears, 74, of Ehrhardt, entered into eternal rest Friday morning, February 24, 2023 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg.

Born September 3, 1948 in Ehrhardt, he was a son the late Faber Copeland Mears and Adina Fender Kinard Mears.  He was a graduate of Bells High School and United Electronics Institute in Charleston.  He served his country in the United States Army form January 1969 until January 1971.  He served in Vietnam from June 1969 until June 1970.  Harry retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas, now Dominion Energy, in Denmark, where he worked for 42 years.

Harry was a lifelong, dedicated and faithful member of Mount Pleasant Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council.  He was also a member of the Ehrhardt Lions Club for 19 years.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and shrimping.  He was a devoted husband, father and brother.  He loved his church family and his community, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are: his wife of 50 years, Wanda Eubanks Mears of Ehrhardt; sons, Christopher Marshall Mears and Brett Allen Mears, both of Ehrhardt; grandchildren, Madisyn Mears and Easton Mears; brother, Carlisle Kinard and his wife Carolyn of Ehrhardt; sister, Joyce Mears Rucker and her husband Steve of Lexington; and nieces and nephews, Valerie Kinard Murdaugh and her husband Steven, Michael Kinard and his wife Melissa; Kristen Rucker, Caleb Rucker, and Michael Rucker.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to: Mount Pleasant Evangelical Lutheran Church, Post Office Box 249, Ehrhardt, South Carolina 29081.

Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock, Saturday afternoon, March 4, 2023 at Mount Pleasant Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1173 Mount Pleasant Road, Ehrhardt.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
