Mr. Harry Walker Herndon, age 79, of 135 Hidden Meadows Lane near Walterboro, entered into his state of eternal rest Friday evening, October 23, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was married to the late Mrs. Sallie Padgett Herndon.



Funeral services will be conducted 4 oclock Monday afternoon, October 26, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Evergreen Christian Church Cemetery, Bells Highway, Walterboro. Casket Bearers will be: Charles Thomas, J. W. Bishop, Legrand Herndon, William B. Herndon, Jr., Bill Stivender, Bubsy McLaine, Stevie Blocker, and Raymond Stivender. Serving as honorary escorts will be: Jimmy Blocker, Johnny Litchfield, Buddy Lewis, Joey McLaine, Joey McLaine, Donald A. Herndon, Mike Herndon, Terry A. Jones, Jimmie White, Frank Marvin, and Frank Rentz.



Mr. Herndon was born December 24, 1929, in Colleton County and was one of eight children born to the late Leroy Tatnel Herndon and the late Corrie Mae Carter Herndon. He served his country in the United States National Guard. Harry devoted his life to the farm and livestock was not only his passion but his career. He worked with, sold and traded livestock his entire life from private sales to that on the floors of Ehrhardt Stockyards as well as the Walterboro Stockyards. He was also an auctioneer, having auctioned for Stamey Horse Auctions and J. B. Blocker Auctions. Additionally in his earlier years, he was a longtime Colleton County Farmer. He was a lifelong member of Evergreen Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Walterboro. His avid love of horses afforded him many opportunities during his life that he so greatly appreciated, such as many occasions when he had the honor of judging many horse shows as well as being one of the last surviving charter members of the Colleton County Saddle Club where he held various positions and put forth much effort in the institutions building. To sum up Harry Herndons life, you would see his love for his late wife and family, especially enjoying his grandchildrens athletics and seeing them letter in their various sports, as well as the farm life, where he spent the days of his life making the advances necessary to provide for those he loved.



Surviving are: a son, Royce P. Herndon and his wife Kay of Walterboro; two daughters, Sharon McLaine and her husband Mike of Walterboro and Stephanie Myers and her husband Mike of Summerville; a brother, Jackie Herndon of Walterboro; and three sisters, Rachel Bryan Jones of Walterboro, Vivian H. Wurster of Glenside, Philadelphia, and Shirley Bailey Baker of Sumter. There are six grandchildren, Jody McLaine, Heather McLaine Sumner, Kimberly Herndon, Travis Herndon, Savannah Myers, Brennen Myers, and Carter John Myers; and three great grandchildren, Reagan Valentine, Thomas Sumner, and Olivia Grace Sumner that also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Brice Wilbur Herndon and two sisters, Mae Herndon Jones and Sue Herndon.
