WALTERBORO " Master Sergeant Harold Clay Floyd, United States Army (Ret.), age 81, of 126 Parkwood Circle, Walterboro, died Wednesday evening, December 17, 2008, at his residence under the care of Odyssey Health Care Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Saturday morning, December 20, 2008, from Edgewood Baptist Church with The Reverend Ralph Warren and The Reverend Nelson Howe officiating. Interment with full military honors provided by the United States Army and Masonic Rites will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.
Master Sergeant Floyd was born October 10, 1927, in Jay, Florida and was a son of the late Henry Clay Floyd and the late Pearl Polk Floyd. Before going into active service he worked in a Civil Service capacity and then started his career with the Military. He served faithfully in the United States Army for twenty-four years having achieved the rank of Master Sergeant at his retirement. He saw action in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era along with having been decorated with many distinguished medals and honors. He then worked for Morrison Cafeteria having retired as a Dietician Manager at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. He was a active member of Edgewood Baptist Church where he was a part of the Hospitality Committee. He was a Master mason holding his membership at Jay Masonic Lodge No. 176, Free and Accepted Masons where he had recently received his fifty-five year pin. He was a fourteenth degree Scottish Rite holding his membership at Valley of El Paso, Orient of Texas. Remembered by all for his strong work ethic and the love and devotion he had to his family, always centering his life around his loving family; he will be fondly recalled by all for his love of fishing the local rivers of Colleton County and good Southern cooking.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty-seven years, Mrs. Joyce Brown Floyd; three daughters and their spouses, Patsy Floyd Stack and Joseph Dillard Stack, Jr. of Edgefield, Paula Floyd Myers and Darrell Myers of Rock Hill, and Robin Floyd Bussey and Timothy Harvard Bussey of Charleston; a brother, Nick Floyd of Panama City, Florida; and two sisters, Mildred Heaton of Jay, Florida and Hazel McArthur of Pensacola, Florida. There are five grandchildren, Colin Jonathan Moore, Jr., Brenda Christine Miller, Harry Matthew Hiers, Darrell Kevin Myers, and Melody Suzanne Klein; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild that also survives.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the beloved caregivers that were so faithful to Harold in his final days on Earth, Bernice, Angie, Jenny, Thelma, and Tara; as well as those with Odyssey Health Care Hospice.
