Mr. Harold Klein DeWitt, 77, of Player Lane near Ruffin, entered into his state of eternal rest Sunday morning, November 8, 2009, at his residence following an extended illness under the care of Winyah Hospice.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Wednesday morning, November 11, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend ONeal Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Mr. DeWitt was born October 2, 1932 in Colleton County and was a son of the late Klein DeWitt and the late Pearl Crosby DeWitt. He was a retired installation technician from Greene Heating and Air in Walterboro and was a member of the Smoaks Church of God of Prophecy. Harold was a family man who loved his family and friends dearly and was a well known handy man always able to fix most anything he came across. He possessed an avid love of hunting big game and fishing the local creeks of Colleton County.
Surviving are: a daughter, Patricia DeWitt Lee and her husband Richard of Ruffin; a longtime friend and companion, Mrs. Minnie Warren DeWitt of Ruffin; and four sisters, Thelma Broderick and Betty Ruth Craven both of Walterboro, and Patty Warren of Williams and Pauline Page of Maryland. There are two grandchildren, Chris Warren and his wife Juli-Anna of Cottageville and Crystal Woolum of Ruffin; as well as seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy DeWitt Woolum.
