Gordon "Ben" Kearse

June 5, 1926 — May 17, 2016

Mr. Gordon Benjamin Kearse, 89, of Ehrhardt, entered into rest Tuesday morning, May 16, 2016, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.  Mr. Kearse was the loving husband of sixty-one years to the late Mrs. Sadie Rae Rentz Kearse at the time of her death March 21, 2016.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2016 from Mount Pleasant Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1173 Mount Pleasant Road, Ehrhardt.  The Reverend Rick Mason, officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow in the churchyard.

Born June 5, 1926, in Bamberg County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Henry Angus Kearse, Sr. and the late Anabell Boynton Kearse.  He served our country faithfully in the United States Army as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict and was a receipt of numerous merits and medals to include the distinguished Purple Heart. He also served in the Army Reserves.  He was a lifelong farmer, having been a member of the Cattleman’s Association.  He was a member of Mount Pleasant Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ehrhardt where for thirty years he served as secretary of the church’s Sunday school and served on Church Council.  Following his retirement, he dearly loved flower and vegetable gardening, which he loved to share with others.  He will always be remembered as a devoted husband and father.

Surviving are: two children, Gordon Henry Kearse and his wife, Karen of Ehrhardt and Susan Kearse Clayton and her husband James “Jimmy” of Ehrhardt.
