Gloria Godley

Mrs. Gloria Gibson Godley, 77, of Islandton, entered into rest eternal Wednesday evening, November 29, 2023, at Colleton Medical Center. She was the wife of the late David Lamar Godley, to whom she was married 53 years.

Born April 28, 1946, in Hampton County, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd Gibson and Edna Jones Gibson.  She was a retired IT Director at the Naval Hospital in Beaufort.  She was a member of Adnah United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.  She held many positions and served on several committees at the church.  She was also a member of Community Chapter No. 206 Order of the Eastern Star, where she was a Past Worthy Matron.  Most of all, she loved her family and centered her life around them.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, fishing and going to Paukie Island.

Surviving are: her children, Donna Godley Coxwell and her husband Reverend Michael Coxwell of Beaufort, and Jeff Godley and his wife Stacey Mole Godley of Islandton; grandchildren, Courtney Elizabeth Coxwell (Andrew Riggs), Caroline Coxwell Howell and her husband William Howell, III, Catherine Grace Coxwell (Andrew Tant), Kenneth Lloyd Godley, and Kennedy Faith Godley; great grandchild, Eliza Cooper Howell; nephew, Jason Peeler and his family of Islandton; niece, Emily Peeler Welch and her family of Islandton; as a well as a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.  She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Janice Marie Godley; grandson, Matthew Kendall Light; siblings, William Gibson, Violet Crosby, Gladys Crosby, L.J. Gibson, Roy Gibson, Bobby Gibson, and Rae Polk; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Godley Peeler and her husband Jerry.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in her memory to: Adnah United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 500 Adnah Church Road, Islandton, South Carolina 29929.

Funeral services will be held 11 o’clock, Saturday morning, December 2, 2023, at Adnah United Methodist Church, 500 Adnah Church Road, Islandton.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
