Mrs. Gladys Jones Smoak, 57, of 3885 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro, entered into her state of eternal rest Sunday evening, September 19, 2010, following a courageously fought battle against cancer and under the care of Odyssey Health Care Hospice.



A service of worship and celebration of her life will be conducted 11 oclock Saturday morning, September 25, 2010, from the Walterboro Church of God, 4582 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro, with The Reverend Roger L. Smoak, The Reverend Bruce Fox, The Reverend John Harbin, and The Reverend Milton Stubblefield officiating. Interment will follow in Grace Advent Christian Churchyard, 398 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.



Mrs. Smoak was born December 8, 1952, in Colleton County and was a daughter of the late Chalmers Nathan Jones and the late Grace Altman Jones. During her working career, she worked various jobs throughout the county before becoming and retiring as the Executive Secretary for the Colleton County Memorial Library in Walterboro, a job that she worked well, was dedicated to and will be most remembered for work. She was raised in her family church and gave her life to God at Grace Advent Christian Church in Walterboro, and in her later years, became a member of the Hardeeville Church of God, where she proved her dedication to the Lord and her love of God and fellowman. At her church, she stood beside her husband in his role of Pastor, was President of the Ladies Auxiliary, Childrens Church Director, Director of Programs, Adult Sunday School Teacher, taught classes on Prayer, and was the Church Clerk.



Sister Gladys was an excellent Southern cook, always preparing for her family, friends, and church functions. She possessed a love of music and puzzles. There are many aspects of her life that were truly remarkable, but most notably she will be remembered for her love of God and her church, her never ending love and support for her family, and how strongly she stood by her husband through his ministry and work for the Lord.



Surviving are: her husband, The Reverend Roger Leon Smoak; two sons, Timothy Christopher Smoak and his wife Christina Mimi Clark Smoak of Walterboro and David Roger Smoak and his wife Lori Clark Smoak of Walterboro; a daughter, Angela Lynette Smoak Bennett and her husband Shane Bennett of Walterboro; and her step-mother, Mrs. Rachel Herndon Jones of Walterboro. There are seven grandchildren, who where the light of her life, Shayla Bennett, Ethan Bennett, Trystan Smoak, Nathan Smoak, Parker Smoak, A.J. Frasier and Aaron Frasier that also survive.
