Biography

Mrs. Gertrude Salisbury Hiott, 99, of Beach Road, Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at her residence. She was the widow of Joel M. Hiott.

Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Sunday, October 30, 2011 at Doctor's Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm until the hour of service at the church.

Mrs. Hiott was born June 7, 1912 in Ruffin and was a daughter of the late Isaac C. Salisbury and Minnie Bennett Salisbury. She was a retired cafeteria server for the Colleton County School District and was a former seamstress. She was a member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member of the King's Daughters Sunday School Class, Women's Missionary Union. She was also a Sunday School Teacher for many years and worked with the Junior Training Union Department for 12 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 147 and was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are: her children, Joel D. Hiott and his wife Brenda of Harrisburg, NC, William F. Hiott, Sr. of Walterboro and Sammy Hiott and his wife Barbara of Ravenel; a special caregiver, Sherry Hawk; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Beverly Hiott Myers.
